Media plays a very large role in everyone’s life. It is very prominent in our culture and affects how we live out everyday. Media shapes how people view aspects of their lives and how they process life events.
Media is important because a lot of Gen-Z does not know how to live without it. It is how they communicate with one another and build stronger relationships.
Media is also how many people of all generations stay relevant. Media helps get information out in a matter of minutes. It is helpful in areas of entertainment, news, or sports.
Going off that media affects people because of its ability to feed people information at their fingertips. Whenever someone has a question a comment or a thought, they can find validation or more information on any platform. Whether that be some sort of social media platform, like Instagram or TikTok, or more reliable news site.
Media is also relevant not just for personal use but also for business use. Business and other organizations are able to promote different ideas, events, or products but utilizing media correctly. Digital Marketing is a very relevant and successful field that helps promote and grow businesses.
I want to go into promotions, marketing, and public relations for a small business or non-profit organization. Media would play a huge role in this career because having a media presence helps promote and grow the business or non-profit I would be working for.
Communication is also an important part of this career field because I would have to coordinate internally with different co-workers to decide what type of media we wanted to promote. Communication would also take place between the business and the consumer, relaying what the business or non-profit would be promoting.
Media is inevitable in everyone’s daily lives and is arguably the thing that impacts people the most. The impact strongly shapes how people consume information and make decisions.
If I had to go 24 hours without media…
- Hardest part: feeling disconnected with people from back home, not being able to text someone when I have a funny story or a random thought. I think not texting would be the hardest for me.
- What I’d miss: I do feel like going on social media is a default for me when I need a brain break, which might not be healthy, but I think I would miss that temporary escape from reality. It can bring a sense of joy and lightheartedness, so I would miss that.
- What I’d gain: I think it would help me detox and reset. I think it would be healthy to disconnect for a little and truly live in the moment with no expectations, distractions, or comparison.
